SOUTHPORT — Linda Jean Sparkman passed away at SECU Hospice House March 27, 2024, in the presence of her loving husband “Erv” and son “Chris” after a long illness.
She was born in Rochester NH and lived in Somersworth and Dover, NH. She moved to Saint James in Southport, NC in 2012.
She is survived by her husband, Clement Ervin Sparkman; son, Christopher Hanscom (wife Sandra); son, Brian Hanscom; “her girl” she considered a “daughter”, Cindy Albertson; step-son, William Sparkman; and grandsons, Ryan, Nicholas, and Noah.
She was loved deeply by her family and will be missed greatly. She was known by many affectionate names (mom, mama, mam, nana, gram and suga) to express the family’s love for her. She gave each family member her love and counsel in a special way.
She retired from a successful career after rising from a typist to a senior HR manager at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. She earned undergraduate and graduate degrees while working full-time in addition to being a full-time homemaker. She loved socializing, music and dancing and enjoyed mountain hiking, snow skiing, biking and golf.
In her final days she was well cared for by Lower Cape Fear Hospice. Her life will be celebrated at a private family gathering later.
