Charles Richard Cheatham, 87

Charles Richard Cheatham (Andrews Mortuary and Crematory)

WILMINGTON — Charles Richard Cheatham Sr. passed away quietly at his home surrounded by his family Friday, March 29, 2024.

He was born in Howell, Tn. on Dec. 24, 1936 to Marie Euranie Cheatham and Ralph King Cheatham.

He is survived by Margie Cunningham Cheatham, his beloved wife of 66 years, sons Charles Richard Cheatham Jr., Allan Kent Cheatham(Cindy) grandson, Charles R. Cheatham III “Trey”, granddaughters, Elizabeth Cheatham Hankins (Samuel), Catherine M. Cheatham, two great grandsons, Camden Cheatham and John Wilson Hankins, brothers Albert Cheatham(Nancy), and James Cheatham, in addition to several nieces and nephews.

Charlie was a graduate of Tennessee Technological University and spent his career in textiles with DuPont until he retired in 1992. Charlie had been a member of Winter Park Baptist Church since 1970 where he was active in the adult choir. He played bagpipes in the Wilmington Police Pipe and Drum Corps for 20 years and had been a lifelong avid fisherman, along with boating and various water sports. He loved traveling and spending time with his family. He also loved working in his yard and creating Bonsai plants.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, April 4 at noon at Winter Park Baptist Church, Wilmington NC. Service to follow at 1 p.m. immediately following. Burial afterwards at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
