Rex Byron Seal (Wilmington Funeral & Cremation)

WILMINGTON — Rex Byron Seal, 89, of Wilmington, NC passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer.

Rex was born on April 25, 1934, in Morristown, TN to the late Wright and Margaret Leonard Seal. Also preceding him in death his beloved wife of Betty Wood Seal who died in 2016, grandson Jason Seal, and daughter-in-Law Denise Williams Seal.

He graduated from Morristown High School and later joined the US Army in March of 1954 where he was stationed in Japan as a Crypto Specialist. After his enlistment ended in 1956, Rex entered East Tennessee State University where he earned a degree in Chemistry. Upon graduation, he began his career with Dupont and was employed there until his retirement. After retirement, Rex remained active in the Wilmington NC Community. He volunteered for 10 years with the Senior Center doing taxes, winning a President’s Award for his service. He enjoyed bowling and was on a state championship bowling team. As a member of the Optimist Club, he served as President. He was a long time member of Pine Valley Baptist Church.

While a student at East Tennessee State University, Rex met and fell in love with Betty Wood. They were married in 1957 and enjoyed a full life of 59 years together. Rex was a wonderful and devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his children, Jeff Seal and wife Linda, Mark Seal, Karen S. Chadwick and husband Bob and Christi S. Kleoudis, as well as, many loving grandchildren Matt, Chris, Nathan, Evan, Jonathan John and Nick, Great-grandchildren Rhett, Sibley and Mira.

Memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday March 2, 2024 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel. A reception will follow the service where the family will greet friends.
