WILMINGTON — Anthony “Tony” Marin, 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 15, 2024, surrounded in his last hours by his family at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Tony was born October 5, 1933, in Yugoslavia (Croatia). He came to the United States on May 25, 1938, through Ellis Island with his parents Sam and Josephine and resided in New York City.
Tony entered the US Army in 1954 and transferred to the Reserves in 1956. After leaving the Army, Tony attended technical college and joined Pfizer, Inc. as a mechanical engineer in NYC where he worked for 31 years on US and international projects. He was an avid reader and talented woodworker. Tony enjoyed spending time with his family and time in his workshop crafting furniture for their home.
Tony married his wife of 64 years, Mercedes, in November of 1960. In 1964, they welcomed their daughter Lisa and later moved from Brooklyn, NY to Kings Park, NY. In 2021, Tony and Mercedes left New York for Wilmington, NC to join their daughter, son-in law, and granddaughter.
Tony was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Mercedes, his daughter, Lisa, and his granddaughter, Samantha.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 10 at 9 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 6650 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington, North Carolina.
