WILMINGTON — Corinne Rae Garland, age 62, of Wilmington, NC, suffered a cardiac arrest on the 16th of October 2023 and passed away at Novant Health/ New Hanover Regional Medical Center of Wilmington with her son at her bedside on the 18th of October, 2023.
Corinne was born in Santa Barbara County, California on March 22nd 1961 to the late Clark M. Cox and Elizabeth P. Gladstone. She is survived by her son; Larry Garland, her nephew, Michael Rhodes, and her grandchildren, Bryce Garland, Ivy Garland, and Mason Garland. She is received in death by her father; Clark Cox, her mother, Elizabeth Gladstone, her sister, Melanie Rhodes, and her brother, Michael Cox.
Corinne moved to Hendersonville, NC in the mid 1980’s from Tacoma, WA in search of better opportunities for her and her son’s future and to be closer to her sister. She set her roots there as a mixologist for the then renowned Kelsey’s bar and grill of Hendersonville, NC.
Her witty banter, kind soul, and mastery of mixology skills was behind much of the major success and growth of the restaurant in the early to mid 90’s. In the mid 90’s, she decided that she wanted better for her and her family still. So, she obtained a business license and started ‘Welcome Home’, a home cleaning specialist service. With her business ethics and ability to clean just about anything, her business quickly grew to become one of the top rated companies in Henderson County by the late 90’s.
Corinne had a “life long” deep love for the ocean.
In 2003, after closing her business, she moved to Wilmington, NC, and found herself an apartment with a beautiful view of the Cape Fear River. She would love to sit and watch the ships as they passed.
She would also enjoy daily laughs and conversations on the phone with her son. No matter where they were or what they were doing, they made sure to stay in touch with each other. Corinne was a loving and faithful servant of the Lord, an amazing mother, sister, and friend.
She will be incredibly missed by all that had the opportunity to know and love her in this life.
A private service will be held by her family at which time her cremains will be scattered into the ocean for her to forever be a part of the sea she so much loved.
