Fred Michael Maliga (Andrews Mortuary and Crematory)

WILMINGTON — Fred Michael Maliga, 91, of Wilmington, NC, died Thursday, October 5, 2023.

He was born March 14, 1932 in Mountain Dale, NY to the late Michael Maliga and Anna Tzlachta Maliga. Fred was also preceded in death by his four brothers, Thomas, John, Joseph and Robert Maliga, and his sister, Helen Maliga Prusinski.

Fred proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1952 – 1954 in the Korean War. After the war, he received his BS and MBA degrees from Syracuse University. He was employed by General Electric in Quality Control and retired after 35 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Penton Maliga; two daughters, Julie Maliga Hardison and husband, Michael, of Wilmington, and Amy Maliga Winsted of Melbourne, FL; two sons, Thomas Walter Maliga and wife, Nicole, of Atoka, TN, and Ted Joseph Maliga and wife, Monica, of Washington, DC. Also surviving are his stepchildren, Caroline Clark and Howard Russell Clark and wife, Beverly, all of Wilmington; eight grandchildren, Ariana, Shayna, Trevor, Zach, Allison, Ted, Jr., Bruce, and Jamison; and one great-grandchild, Harper.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2023, at St. James Episcopal Church. Burial with Military Honors will be held privately. The family will receive friends at the church and at other times at their residence.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James Episcopal Church or to the D.A.V. (Disabled American Veterans).
