WILMINGTON — John Henry Shepard, age 83 of Wilmington, NC, passed away at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare of Wilmington on August 20, 2023.
John was born on March 30, 1940 to the late Jay S. and Dossie H. Shepard in Onslow County, NC.
He is preceded in death by his aforementioned parents Jay & Dossie Shepard of Folkstone, NC, Crayon Shepard of Folkstone, NC, Herman Shepard of Youngsville, NC, L.D. Shepard of Sneads Ferry, NC, Billy Shepard of Pinken, LA, Edith Harrington of Wilmington, NC, Leola Askew of Wilmington, NC, Elma Lucy Butterfield of Silda, CO, and Shelby Shepard of Hollywood, FL.
John is survived by his wife of 63 years Iris Shepard, sons Jeffrey Shepard (Maria) of Miami, FL and Gary Shepard (Dawn) of Hampstead, NC, along with 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, as well as many other extended family members and friends who loved and will miss him.
We are grateful for the support of family and friends who were always near, giving John the precious gift of laughter and love.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Peace Baptist Church in Wilmington, NC, officiated by Pastor Rudy Shepard.
In lieu of flowers, John’s family asks family and friends to consider making a donation in his memory to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, who provided him and his family the comfort, support, and compassion that they needed during his final days.
