WILMINGTON — Ann Leeuwenberg Magill, born on March 16, 1935, peacefully passed away on August 21, 2023, in her hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina. She was 88 years old at the time of her passing.
Ann was born and raised in Wilmington, where she developed strong ties to her community. She attended New Hanover High School, graduating with the class of 1954. Seeking further education, she went on to attend business college in Richmond, VA.
For an impressive 52 years, Ann dedicated her professional life as a bookkeeper at Fleishman’s. Throughout her time there, she formed deep connections with her colleagues, who became like family to her. Ann’s loyalty and love for the Fleishmans were evident in her work ethic and commitment.
Ann’s life was not without its share of loss. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Truman B. Magill, Jr., who passed away in 1988. Additionally, she mourned the loss of her sisters, Cornelia L. Royal and Johanna L. Allen, as well as her brother, Cornelius C. Leeuwenburg. Her parents, Cornelius Leeuwenburg and Margaret Forlaw Leeuwenburg, also preceded her in death.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Robin Pearsall (Victor), and her son, Buddy Magill (Jennifer). Ann’s granddaughters, Courtney Baggett (Graham), Elizabeth Magill, and Anna Magill, held a special place in her heart. She adored them and cherished every moment spent together. Ann was also blessed with four great-grandchildren.
Ann is survived by her sister, Mary L. Sheffield, who will miss her dearly.
Services to celebrate Ann’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at Oakdale Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to join in bidding farewell to this remarkable woman.
Apart from her dedication to her career, Ann found joy in various activities. Cooking, reading, and spending time with loved ones were among her favorite pastimes. She particularly cherished the moments spent with her granddaughters and loved hearing about their adventures.
Ann will be remembered for her sense of humor and her selfless nature. Those fortunate enough to have known her experienced her unwavering support and kindness. Ann’s giving spirit touched the lives of many.
As we mourn the loss of Ann Leeuwenberg Magill, let us also celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the positive impact she had on those around her. May she rest in eternal peace.
