SOUTHPORT — James Harold Russ age 93 of Southport N.C. passed away on June 6, 2023. He was born October 14, 1929 in Southport to the parents of William Albert and Mary R. Russ.
James graduated from Southport High School in 1947. He continued his education at East Carolina University. He worked as a communication specialist for the F.B.I. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard as a Radio Operator. He was also a Past Master of Pythagoras Lodge #249 A.F. & A, M., 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner. He also enjoyed woodworking as a hobby. He also retired as Branch Manager from the State of North Carolina Division of Parole and Probation after 34 years of service.
James is preceded in death by his mother and dad; brother, W.A. Russ Jr.; brother, Gene Russ and a sister, Mary Ann Wilkins.
He is survived by his sister, Priscilla Gaskill; brother, Robert Russ; brother Jack Russ: sister in law, Mary L. Russ and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Peacock Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service in Southport at 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2023. Graveside Service at Northwood Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Charles Drew officiating followed by Masonic Rites accorded by Pythagoras Lodge.
