George Francis McLean, 78

WILMINGTON — George Francis McLean, beloved father, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully on May 22, 2023, in Wilmington, North Carolina. He was 78 years old.

Born in West Chester, NY on August 10, 1944, George was a hardworking and dedicated man. He worked as a firefighter with La Grange Engine 2 and a truck driver with the Port of Wilmington. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, cooking, baking and relished in seafood. George also found joy in coaching youth basketball and spending time at Fort Fisher.

George’s passing is deeply mourned by his four sons; Paul McLean of Albany NY, Mark McLean (Laura) of Gardiner NY, Michael McLean of Albany NY, Joseph McLean (Fouzia) of Wilmington NC. He is also survived by his companion Kaye Micek of Oak Island NC, former wife Patricia McLean (Erv) of Wilmington NC, grandchildren Mark McLean Jr., and Elaina McLean.

In addition to his human loved ones, George is preceded in death by his parents, George and Eleanor McLean, one sister Linda McLean, and his faithful dogs; Ralph, Bubba, and Charlie.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects to George during visitation, which will be held at Wilmington Funeral Chapel, Saturday, May 27, 2023, from 11:00am until 12:00pm.

In Lieu of flowers donations in George’s name can be made to New Hanover Humane Society in Wilmington NC.

George’s life may not have been filled with impressive accomplishments or awards, but to those who knew him, he will be remembered for his loyalty, his love of family, and his willingness to go the extra mile to help others. George’s positive attitude, his warmth, and his kindness will be deeply missed. Rest in peace, George, you will be remembered always.
