WILMINGTON — Stephen Ryder Pearsall of Wilmington, NC cast off his earthly shackles and flew away on Feb 16, 2023.
Ryder is survived by his parents, Whitney Floyd Pearsall and Stephen Vann Pearsall; his sibling Ella Floyd Pearsall; his son Louie Ryder Pearsall; his Granddaddy, Ted Floyd; his “not-the-grandfather” John O. Flournoy; and his Papa William Hill Pearsall, Sr. He was preceded in death by his Mema, Cecilia Ditmer; his BG, Sherry Flournoy; and his Nana, Lib Pearsall, all who hold him now with grace, love, and peace.
Ryder was a mischievous and joyful child, full of laughter and love, which gave him a wonderful curiosity as an adult. He wanted to explore and had a strong desire to figure everything out himself- living life on his own terms. Music and kindness flowed from him; and like the Pied Piper people were drawn to his energy. Those lucky enough quickly became family and were loved fiercely.
His son, Louie, was his pride and joy. Ryder’s loving and wonderous spirit continues to shine through Louie’s eyes, his heart, and his belly laughs.
There are so many friends and family Ryder leaves behind, and many others who left before him who are celebrating with him in reunion. He shared himself with so many people during his life and will continue to do so in death.
As an organ donor, Ryder’s selfless generosity has saved the lives of four people and given them a chance to live, learn, love, and grow.
A fund is currently being established to benefit his son.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift in his memory to the NC Harm Reduction Coalition (www.nchrc.org), or
Honor Bridge (www.honorbridge.org).
A Celebration of Life will be held on March, 25th at 1pm at the Fragrance Garden beside the Greenfield Lake Amphitheater in Wilmington.
