John I. Elmore, 73

WILMINGTON — John I. Elmore passed away at home in Wilmington, NC on January 10, 2023.

He was born February 22, 1949, to John I. and Julia Farrow Elmore. He leaves behind to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 53 years, Teresa Piner Elmore, son Jeffrey Brian Elmore and wife Jenny Jackson Elmore, and his granddaughter Hayden Renee.

He is also survived by sisters Judy Suggs, husband James and Gwendolyn Bass, husband Ralph, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was loved by all his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law.

John retired from General Electric February 2014 after 35 years of service; and worked at Corning Glassworks for 11 years prior to that. John enjoyed boating, fishing, and hunting. He enjoyed surf-fishing and fishing in his boat with Brian in the Intracoastal Waterway and ocean. He was the proud owner of several boats and enjoyed water sports with his family. In his younger years he enjoyed deer and duck hunting. John loved providing and taking care of his family. He cherished his time with his granddaughter, Hayden. He would call her down when she was loud or rambunctious; she would then crawl up on his lap and hug and kiss him.

John was a member of Silver Lake Baptist Church and attended other churches too. He had been unable to attend regularly especially with his declining health. He loved the Lord and had a personal relationship with Him.

A memorial service will be held at Andrews Valley Chapel at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 15. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior. Pastor Steve Gasque of Silver Lake Baptist Church will be officiating the service.

The family would like to express appreciation to the many medical professionals that provided care in the last few years. John was so thankful for Kelsey, his physical therapist, Dr. Ross Stemmler, his Primary Care Provider and for Shauna Ruoff with Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, who provided support and care for him during his sickness.

Also, much appreciation for the love and support from family, special neighbors and friends.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401 or Silver Lake Baptist Church, 4715 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington, NC 28412.
