LELAND — Larry Dean Uriah Futrell (71) of Leland, NC formally of Seagate, NC passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 2, 2022. Like he always said he was “just passing through.”
Larry was born September 22, 1950 to the late Roy Lee Futrell Jr. and Lottie Jane Stewart. He was also preceded in death by his brother Hubert Wayne Futrell.
Larry is survived by his daughters, Dena Futrell (Theo) and Kelly Owen (John) and Grandchildren. Four grandsons, Garrett Hilbourn (Kathleen), Macon Owen, Andrew and Colton Owen and great granddaughter Ava Owen.
He is also survived by the mother of his children, Vickie Harman. Larry is also survived by several special cousins, Bonnie Mae Batson, Eloise Edwards, Bubba Howard and Mike Blanton. Best friends Jimmy Croom and Ervin Lunceford.
Larry was a welder and pipe fitter for over 50 years. He worked in 42 states and Japan and Taiwan. He worked for Brown and Root, Fluor Daniels, The Roberts Company, Southern Industrial, GE Nuclear and many more through the years. Welding was his true passion, he loved to be behind his hood and burning a rod. Larry also loved dirt track racing and NASCAR.
Larry’s family would like to give a special thank you to Vickie Hartman, the mother of Dena and Kelly, Marsha Cashner and Harold Pierce. Larry lived with Vickie for the last eight years as roommates and she helped care for him until the end. We would also like to thank Marsha and Harold for helping care for our daddy.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date and everyone will be notified of the date, time and location.
