WILMINGTON — Franklin Longley “Paco” Ashley Jr. 82, of Wilmington, NC passed away Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington, NC.
Franklin was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 16, 1939, to the late Dr. Franklin Longley Ashley and Jessada Hilton Ashley.
Paco loved to travel. Whether he was sailing the Caribbean, backpacking through Spain, or sponge diving in Greece, he was always up for an adventure. He could often be found traveling in one of his many Volkswagon buses exploring the country with his dog Foxie, his beloved and faithful companion. Paco loved spending time on the water and his work as a commercial fisherman fulfilled his need to be near the ocean. In his later years, he settled in Arizona, until moving to Wilmington five years ago for a new adventure. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Franklin is survived by his sons Forrest Ashley (Crystal) and Wade Ashley (Megan); sister Annie Ashley McKillips; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family would like to thank everyone for their support over the past four years during Paco’s illness. A special thank you to everyone at Zimmer Cancer Center and Lower Cape Fear LifeCare for your compassionate care and kindness.
No formal services are planned.
