Jennie Mae Jones, 81

HAMPSTEAD — Heaven gained a dear saint on Tuesday, May 31, 2022. Jennie Mae Jones, 81 of Hampstead, NC passed away peacefully.

Jennie was born to the late Simuel Burney Smith and Maggie Lily Smith-Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lacy Earl Jones; brothers, Jimmie Lee Smith, Billy Ray Smith; sister, Lila Mae Smith and grandson, Tannner Earl Jones.

Surviving are her children, Jeff (Becky Bomeman) Jones and Melissa (Hal) Henderson-Nicholson; sisters, Shirley Ann Cherry, Joyce (Linwood) Ezzell; brothers, Thomas (Ann) Smith, Bobby (Peggy) Lee Smith and Sammy (Jan) Smith; grandchildren, Casey (Stephanie) Jones and Jarrett Henderson; great grandchildren, Grace and Noah Jones, as well as many deeply loved nieces and nephews.

Jennie owned and operated Mae May’s a clothing store in Teachey, NC before she moved the store to Hampstead, NC, where Jennie and Lacy raised their children.

Jennie Loved the Lord Jesus Christ and she loved her church, Scotts Hill Baptist where she had many many friends. She adored her family and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends and extended family. Jennie was a giver with a heart of gold. Her favorite thing was to volunteer and do her Book Bag ministries as well as lead her Shafto Mission groups. She was always willing to do for others and serve the Lord in every way. Jennie was loved and will be missed by many. If you knew her, you loved her, and we all love you and will see you again one day.

The family would like to thank the staff of NOVANT New Hanover Medical Hospital, the ICU doctors and nurses and Lower Cape fear Life Care Center for the loving care shown to our mother. You are all truly angels.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 1 pm with a one-hour visitation prior at Scotts Hill Baptist Church, 11243 US Highway 17, Wilmington. A reception will follow the service before interment takes place at Riverview Memorial Park, Watha, NC. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made Scott’s Hill Baptist Church missions.
