WILMINGTON — Thomas Brock Owen of Wilmington, NC, passed away on May 23, 2022, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born in Baltimore, MD on March 6, 1939, to Dorothy and John Owen, and spent his childhood in Baldwin, NY. After graduating from Holy Cross College, Tom served in the US Air Force as a lieutenant during both the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam War. He retired after several successful years in advertising, working for Proctor and Gamble, RJR/Nabisco, and Ogilvy and Mather.
Tom was devoted to his wife and children. He was kind to everyone he met, and loved deep, philosophical discussions. He was interested in politics, loved history, and always wanted to be in a room full of books. When he traveled for work, he would record himself reading bedtime stories so his children could still be close to him. Tom loved the beach and long walks with his three girls. He will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother John Owen and sister Doreen Delaney. He leaved behind his wife Carole Owen, three daughters: Tara Locke (John Locke), Courtney Malahias (Peter Malahias), Samantha Fey, and seven grandchildren: Ellie Franzetti (John Franzetti), JT Locke, Thomas Malahias, George Malahias, Olivia Fey, Victoria Fey, and Chloe Fey, and one great-grandchild Amelia Grace Franzetti.
A Graveside Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, May 26, in the Sunrise Mausoleum at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington, 28409. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the amazing and supportive staff at Trinity Grove for the wonderful care.
