Seward Edgar Scharff Sr., 97

WILMINGTON — Seward Edgar Scharff Sr., 97, of Wilmington, died Thursday, November 11, 2021, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center.

Seward was born April 20,1924 in Passaic, NJ, son of the late Frank Baird Scharff and Elsie Mae (Bradley) Scharff.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years, Virginia Scharff, and three brothers Arthur, Frank and Edmund Scharff.; He is survived by seven children, Ann Wood (Earl), S.E. “Ed” Scharff, Jr. (Susan), and Joanne Hoffman, all of North Carolina; Virginia ‘Gina” Notte (John), and Margaret “Meg” Kaltnecker (Bill), all of New Jersey, and, Elsie “Lisa” Whitney (Rich), Katherine Kastner (Carl) of Texas; twenty-five grandchildren; forty-seven great-grandchildren.

Seward, also known as Skip, enjoyed traveling.  He visited all 50 states, and 16 countries including Ireland and Australia, but was happiest surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.   

Skip initially worked for the family business but was then employed at an electronics firm as the manager of information systems for 23 years.  His military service included participation in many actions throughout the Pacific during WWII.  Skip was a sargeant in the 204th Co. US Army.

The family will receive friends Monday, November 15, 2015 and Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at Andrews Valley Chapel with viewings from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on both days.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held in the spring of 2022 at Good Shepherd Church in New Jersey with interment at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Paterson, NJ.
