\WILMINGTON — On Tuesday, October 19, 2021, Andrew James “Andy” Watkins, loving son, brother, and friend passed away at the age of 22 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.
Andy was born on December 30, 1998, to his parents Jim and Kim (Bailey) Watkins. He received his Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Behavior from the University of Notre Dame in May of 2021 and was enrolled in a Master of Education program at the University of Notre Dame through the Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE), with an expected graduation date of May 2023.
Andy was a lover of humanity. He brought life everywhere he went, and he was the reason behind the smiles on countless faces. He included everyone, whether he knew them or not, and loved to hear and learn from others’ stories. He loved philosophy, photography, music, cinema, traveling, and poetry. He was known for his humor, smile, thoughtfulness, and loyalty. His positivity was radiant and inspiring.
Andy is survived by his father, Jim, and his mother, Kim, his twin brother, Jack, sister, Shannon, and Grandmother, Beverly Bailey, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial mass will be held at the Notre Dame Basilica at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 13, 2021. It will be live streamed by the University of Notre Dame; streaming information to be published in November. In lieu of flowers, the Watkins family asks donations be made in honor of Andy to the Andy Watkins Scholarship Fund at GMC Prep School (201 E Greene St, Milledgeville, GA 31061) or the Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) at Notre Dame University (107 Carole Sandner Hall, Notre Dame, IN 46556) or New Hanover Regional Medical Center (2131 S. 17th St, Wilmington, NC 28401).
