Thomas Joseph McGann, Sr. “Tom”, 88

WILMINGTON — Thomas Joseph McGann, Sr. “Tom”, 88, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2021 surrounded by family. Tom is survived by his wife of 67 years, Eleanor, and four children, Thomas and his wife Maureen, Ronald and his wife Jennifer, Sharon and her husband Tracy and Mark and his wife Nicole, 11 beloved grandchildren, Courtney, Ryan, Abigail, Michaela, Hannah, James, Matthew, Christopher, Eve, Hadley and Harper and two great-grandsons, Mason and Christian.

Tom served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and graduated from New York University. He retired from Westinghouse Elevator Division after a 40 year career in management.

Tom and Eleanor retired to Wilmington NC and resided there for 28 years making many cherished friendships throughout the years. They were active members of St. Mark’s Catholic Church where Tom was involved in leadership roles in many programs and committees including serving on the parish council and being a past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus.

Tom is also survived by his three sisters, Patricia Nixon, Joan Marie Ward and Barbara Reitmann and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Michael and Beatrice McGann and his two brothers, Edward and Vincent.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, October 29, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 1011 Eastwood Rd, Wilmington, NC 28403. Inurnment will be at the St. Mark’s columbarium immediately following the mass. The family will receive friends at the St. Mark’s Parish Center afterwards.
