WILMINGTON — I.J. “Jay” Quinn Jr., 58, died Friday, Aug. 6, 2021, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, Wilmington.
He was born Oct. 28, 1962, to very loving parents, I.J. Quinn Sr. and Frances Alderman Quinn.
Jay was very fortunate to have spent almost 30 years with the love of his life, Kimberly Giddeons Quinn. Jay and Kimberly were blessed with two amazing children, Jack and Anna Carson, both 22, of Wilmington. In addition to his wife and children, Jay is survived by his special aunts, Reba S. Quinn, Faye Q. Williams, Rita S. Quinn, Irene Rivenbark and Carolyn Alderman; as well as many special cousins.
Jay was a graduate of Harrells Christian Academy and the University of Mount Olive. His early work experience was in the family business, the Quinn Wholesale Company in Warsaw, and later he became the owner of Warsaw Gifts, followed by family involvement in Giddeon’s Body Shop in Teachey.
Jay was an active member of Boy Scouts Troop 44 in Warsaw, where he obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. He was also a lifetime supporter of the Duke Men’s Basketball program. He was very involved in the Ronald McDonald House in Durham, where a room is named in honor of his parents.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 10, with a visitation immediately following the service, at Andrews Mortuary and Crematory, 1617 Market St., Wilmington.
Jay’s big heart and caring nature will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. His talents of gardening, boating and cooking will be greatly missed. His greatest love was for his immediate and extended family members and friends who became family.
