WILMINGTON — Joyce Marshall Willoughby, 76, peacefully passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2021. She was born Jan. 3, 1945, to the late Eulus Marshall and Hilda Marshall in Garland.
She graduated Campbell University in 1966 and became an elementary school teacher, teaching in Florida and then later in North Carolina, where she settled with her husband, Larry Michael Willoughby, who she married in 1967. The two ran successful motel businesses in Kure Beach and Carolina Beach over their working careers. She was a loving mother to her three children, a faithful wife and doting grandmother to her beloved grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eulus Marshall and Hilda Marshall; and three siblings, Shirley Marshall, Mary Alice Marshall and Bobby Marshall.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Willoughby of Kure Beach; three children, Amy Willoughby Burle (R.J.) of Candler, Joseph Willoughby (Kristie) of Wilmington, and Joy Willoughby Gibson (Randall) of Wilmington; seven grandchildren, Miranda Burle, Delia Burle, Aiden Willoughby, Noah Willoughby, Waylon Gibson, Joseph Burle and Patrick Burle; sister, Patricia Marshall; niece, Angela; and five nephews, Kent, Todd, Anthony, Mike and Bob.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 6, at Andrews Mortuary, 4108 S. College Road, Wilmington. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by a service in the chapel. Interment will immediately follow services in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1311 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, 28412.
