Richard R. DeBose, 73, retired vice president with BB&T

HAMPSTEAD — Richard R. DeBose, 73, passed away Monday, June 14, 2021, at his home.

Richard was born Sept. 6, 1947, to parents Fitzgerald and Esther DeBose, in Pender County. He graduated from Penderlea High School in 1965 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. In 1967, Richard was deployed to Vietnam, where he served one year. After receiving an honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force in 1969, Richard began working in the banking industry at NCNB in Wilmington. He moved to Lumberton in 1981 to work with Southern National Bank. At the time of his retirement in 2002, Richard was a vice president with BB&T and the city executive of BB&T in Clinton.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Fitzgerald and Esther DeBose; and uncle, Earl Register.

Richard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sheila Humbles DeBose; daughters, Paula DeBose Bradshaw (Roger) of Clinton and Gail DeBose Georgescu (Florentino) of Hampstead; and his best buddies, grandsons, Patrick Thomas Bradshaw of Hampstead and Adam Richard Georgescu of Hampstead. Richard is also survived by his aunt, Jeanette Register of Watha; and siblings, Geraldine Jones (Danny) of Wilmington, David DeBose (Nancy) of Hamilton, Virginia, Patricia DeBose of Watha, Kenneth DeBose (Gloria) of Watha, Vicki Mills (Phil) of Willard, and James Earl Register of Watha. He was known as “Uncle Ricky” to his nephews and nieces, Phillip Mills, Nicholas Mills, Jacob DeBose, Susan Wellington, Jonathan Jones, Kristina Davis, Alicia Wallace, Elisabeth Boyle, Susannah Lee, and Victoria DeBose; in addition to several great-nephews and great-nieces.
