CAROLINA BEACH — Martha Ann Bell, 73, died Sunday, June 6, 2021, at home. She was born Dec. 8, 1947, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Martha was a 1966 graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School, and in June of 1968, she married the love of her life, George. She also worked for the state of Pennsylvania until her retirement. Martha enjoyed the beach from the time she was a small child and always dreamed of living near the ocean. In November 2009, her dream came true when she and George bought a home in Carolina Beach.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, of 43 years, George W. Bell; father, Woodrow W. Kern; mother, Regina Kern; and sister, Mary Lou Smith.
Martha is survived by her son, George W. Bell II, and his wife, Jamie, of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; daughter Stephanie A. Lewis, and her husband, James, of Carolina Beach; brother, Ralph Kern of Virginia; sister, Linda Lee Richley of Florida; four grandchildren, Haylee Page of Pennsylvania, Dylan Chubb of North Carolina, Carly Brubaker of Pennsylvania and Philip Brubaker V of North Carolina; five great-grandchildren who always enjoyed visiting “Go Go” and going to her beach; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Martha, known to many as “Marti,” cherished her family and friends and was loved by all. She never missed an opportunity to celebrate even the smallest occasion. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. She truly enjoyed life and lived every day to the fullest. She will be greatly missed by all who had the honor of knowing her. The family is planning a celebration of Martha’s life to be held later this year.
