Jonathan Harold “Jono” Stewart, 33, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021.
Jonathan was born May 11, 1988, in Frederick, Maryland, and spent most of his younger life in Wilmington and Lawrenceville, Georgia. From there, he traveled and lived in cities all over the United States. Some of his favorites were Asheville; Riverside, California; Seattle, Washington; and Denver, Colorado, which he loved for their natural beauty.
One of his greatest joys was going for a long drive while listening to his favorite music, books, movies or talking on the phone with his best friend since birth, his dad. Jono was an avid comic book and sci-fi nerd. He loved gaming, especially with other people, whether it was putting a raid together in League, being the dungeon master in a round of D&D, or playing a game of chess.
He was a lifelong voracious reader, from Harry Potter to The Count of Monte Cristo, who passionately loved libraries and all they offered the community. He had a goofy sense of humor; he loved to laugh and make others laugh. Jonathan was a wanderer and always marveled at the stars. It’s only fitting that we’re putting him on a rocket and sending his ashes to outer space, for his last big adventure.
He is survived by his parents, Carole Ellzey, Glenn Ellzey, Dave Stewart and Diane Stewart; siblings, Ryan Stewart (Jessica) and Whitney Ellzey; nephew, Daniel Stewart; nana, Sharon Stewart; and grandfather, Michael Ellzey.
A memorial will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, June 5, at Coble Funeral Home, 1155 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington. This will be an intimate, casual gathering, where we will share memories and support each other.
