OAK ISLAND — Sharon Barker Neal, 71, died suddenly Friday May 14, 2021, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
She was born April 14, 1950, to William Douglas Barker and Gracie Louise Ray in London, Kentucky. She married Robert Neal Jan. 18, 1982, in Monroe, Michigan.
Sharon was a generously loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, niece, cousin and friend. She was crippled and bedridden with rheumatoid arthritis for many years; yet, she never let that dampen her loving and positive spirit. Rather than dwell on her own infirmities, she was always concerned about the health, well-being and happiness of those around her. She unequivocally loved her God Jehovah and would talk at length about Him to anyone who would listen, even robocalls, who would immediately disconnect her. She had an unconditional love for her family and friends with an intensity rarely found. She was a blessing and inspiration to all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; and grandson, Aaron Burke.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Neal of Oak Island; four children, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, of whom she was always so proud; son, Michael Kruse Jr. of Southport, (children, Michael III, wife, Sadie, son, Zane; Jessica, partner, Paul, son, Brycen); daughters, Robin Beckman of Belleview, Florida, (husband, Jeff, son, Christopher, children, Riley, Easton); Dietra Hunsucker of Southport (husband, Kenneth Jr., children, Ashley; Anna, partner, Ty, children, Kaylee, Nicholas); Jolynn Lewis of Bolivia, (husband, Joe, children, Robert, Andrea, Lillie, Brandon); many in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends too numerous to list, but who are not forgotten.
She is being cremated at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service. A visitation, memorial and celebration of life services will be announced at a later date.
