WILMINGTON — William Brown “Billy” Towles, 83, peacefully passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Billy, as he was known to everyone he met, was born Sept. 17, 1937, in Barnwell, South Carolina, to the late Everett Brown and Sarah Patterson Towles.

Billy attended Bolles Military Academy in Jacksonville, Florida, and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1960 with a B.S. Degree in Industrial Relations. He worked for EB Towles Construction Company, Ideal Cement and Occidental Chemical Company before retiring in 1996. Billy and his wife Brenda successfully built and managed Wheel Estates I, Wheel Estates II and Hidden Lakes Mobile Home Parks. Billy enjoyed traveling and meeting people. Always the great conversationalist, he never met a stranger!

A member of St. James Episcopal Church, Billy is survived by his wife of 58 years, Brenda H. Towles of the home; son, E. Brown Towles, and his wife, Angie Towles, of Angier; grandson, Patterson B. Towles, and his wife, Meg Towles, of Benson; granddaughter, Caroline M. Towles of Raleigh; and great-grandson, Shepard Brown Towles of Benson.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 26, at Oakdale Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Kathy Bethune, Alena Zibutis, Elizabeth Delamate and the staff of Eldercare for their devoted and compassionate care. They would also like to thank their family and friends for their love and support during Billy’s illness, especially Judy and the late Kenneth Eason.
