CAROLINA SHORES — Robert Henry Dwyer, 75, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021, at his home. Robert was born May 31, 1945, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, to Orrington Embry Dwyer and Norval (Kramer) Dwyer.
He graduated from Earl L. Vandermeulen High School in Port Jefferson, New York, and from Northeastern University in Boston with his bachelor’s degree.
Robert was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, where he served as an elder. He was also a member of the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, chapter of Toastmasters International, the Model A Ford Club and the BOAZ Masonic Lodge No. 669 in Toledo, Ohio. Robert had a love of cars and was the proud owner of a 1936 Ford sedan and a 1928 Ford Model A. He liked nothing more than taking his antique cars out for drives and introducing the cars to interested bystanders.
Robert started his business career with Ford Motor Company. When he left Ford, he began a long career in the used machinery industry. He thrived when involved with the purchase and sale of machinery while employed by Weldon F. Stump Co in Toledo, Ohio; J&G Machinery in Holland, Ohio; Gosiger Machinery in Dayton, Ohio; and finally, National Machinery Exchange in Newark, New Jersey. Robert retired from National Machinery Exchange after more than 30 years of service.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
Robert is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dianne (Daniels) Dwyer of Carolina Shores; son, Matthew Ryan Dwyer, and two grandsons, Harlan James and Levi John, of Ocean Isle Beach; brother, William (Judy) Dwyer of Somerville, Tennessee; sister, Constance (Bruce) Burck of Bridgewater, New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, at a later date.
