Riley Stout Estes, 19, passed away suddenly Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021. He was born March 2, 2001, in Wilmington, to parents Brian and Gretchen Estes.

Riley was a 2019 New Hanover High School graduate and member of First Presbyterian Church. He attended the University of Arkansas, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was currently enrolled as a sophomore at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He was an avid outdoorsman, athlete and fearless adventurer who loved fishing, hunting, football, baseball, scuba diving, skiing and even skydiving.

Riley is survived by his loving big brother, Burke Estes, residing in Charlottesville; paternal grandmother, Sara Shaw of Scott, Arkansas; maternal grandparents, Jim and Donna Garrett of Magnolia, Arkansas; aunt and uncle, Jill and Haden Etheridge; cousins, Russell and Brooks Etheridge of Lantana, Texas; and uncle, Gray Garrett, of Plano, Texas.

An outdoor memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 11, at Wrightsville Beach Park Pavilion. The service will be conducted by WBUMC Pastor Doug Lain. Private burial will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.

A memorial fund has been created at to establish a greenspace in Riley’s memory.
