Ronald L. ‘Ronnie’ Schreiber

WILMINGTON — Ronald L. “Ronnie” Schreiber, 82, passed away Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021. He was born Aug. 15, 1938, in Dothan, Alabama, the son of the late Miriam (Maggie) Kraselsky and Abe Schreiber.

He graduated from Moultrie High School and the University of Georgia. He loved the Georgia Bulldogs and was a lifelong season ticket holder. After college, Ronnie lived in Moultrie, Georgia, until retiring to Wilmington in 1999. While living in Moultrie, Ronnie was a specialty retailer, operating Schreibers Inc., a business featuring ladies’ shoes, sportswear and fine jewelry. After a heart attack, Ronnie, much to his regret, closed his family business that had been in operation over 50 years.

Ronnie was an avid sports fan and gentleman, loving most all sports, especially football, baseball and golf. He knew so much about sports, especially UGA, Colquitt County Packers and the Atlanta Braves, that his Moultrie friends often referred to him as “Coach.” He served as president of the Packer Booster Club while in Moultrie and in 2005, was inducted into the Colquitt County Sports Hall of Fame. He was a member of Landfall Country Club, where he loved to play golf and socialize. He was also a member of B’nai Israel Synagogue. Ronnie loved people and had many, many friends, both old and new.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Arlene Zimmer Schreiber; son, Dr. Andrew M. Schreiber, and his wife, Jessica, and their children, Hailey and Lilyanna, and son, Mark H. Schreiber, and his wife, Julia, all of Wilmington. Also surviving are his sister, Ruth Alexander, of Nashville, Tennessee; brothers-in-law, Herbert Zimmer, and his wife, Ronna, Jeffrey Zimmer and Alan Zimmer, and his wife, Rose; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private graveside services will be held Monday, Feb. 1, at B’nai Israel Hebrew Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Zimmer Cancer Center, 2131 S 17th St., Wilmington, NC 28401, named in memory of his in-laws, the late William R. and Roberta Zimmer.
