LELAND — Bradford John “Brad” Holtz, 70, passed away Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021, at his home in Leland. He recently moved to the area from Springfield, then Lorton, Virginia, where he and his wife resided for over 30 years.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lynn (Richert) Holtz; mother, Barbara Holtz of Hamden, Connecticut; sisters, Suzan Holtz of Norfolk, Connecticut, and Amy Iezzi (Mike) of Hamden, Connecticut; sister-in-law, Kim Gilcher (Roy) and Bobbi Lewis (Martin); and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Edwin Holtz; and brother, Robert Holtz.

Brad was a 1972 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, New York, and commissioned as an Armor Officer. In 1974, he attended flight school and transitioned to the Army Aviation Branch. During his years in aviation, he enjoyed teaching new Army aviators and working in aviation research and development. He retired at the rank of major in 1992. After his military retirement, he worked as a civilian contractor and then served as a Department of Defense Budget Analyst, retiring in 2017.

Brad enjoyed international travel with his wife Lynn and especially their many visits to the island of Bequia, St. Vincent, and the Grenadines, where they decided to build their winter home, “At last” completed in 2017. He also took joy in a round of golf, a paddle in his kayak, a long ride through the countryside on his bicycle, or sipping wine with friends at a vineyard.

Services and burial will be at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, on a date to be determined.

Memorial donations in Brad’s name may be made to the Wounded Warriors Family Foundation or Gary Sinise Foundation.
