WILMINGTON — Gladys Elizabeth Heinbuch Womersley, 93, was born Jan. 25, 1927, in Washington, D.C. She passed away Monday, Jan. 18, 2021.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace B. Womersley Sr.; parents, Kenneth and Ruth Heinbuch; brothers, Howard Heinbuch, Wayne Heinbuch and Arthur Heinbuch; and sons-in-law, Tim Molitor and Leo Jett, both of Maryland.

She is survived by her son, Wallace “Ben” Womersley, and his wife, Laurelle, of North Carolina; daughters, Nancy Molitor and Bunny Jett, both of Maryland; sister, Joyce Pruyn, and her husband, Gerry, of Oregon; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Gladys graduated from Oxon Hill High School in Oxon Hill, Maryland. She held several positions within U.S. government agencies, cumulating in a 30-year career with the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. She lived in Maryland until moving to Englewood, Florida, in 1986, then moving to Leland in 2017.

In Englewood, she was an active member of Gulf Cove United Methodist Church. In Leland, she was an active member of Elah Baptist Church. She was always active with the Leland Senior Center, where she helped and participated. She was a member of NARFE and TOPS.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 29, at Elah Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Elah Baptist Church, 1527 Old Fayetteville Road NE, Leland, NC 28451. Please wear masks and practice social distancing.
