Eddie Levon Holden, 67, sports enthusiast with a penchant for college football, the NFL and NASCAR

OCEAN ISLE BEACH — Eddie Levon Holden, 67, passed away Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021, at his home.

Eddie was born July 16, 1953, in Wilmington to the late George Edwin Holden and the Rev. L’lena Hewett Holden. He graduated from the North Carolina School for the Deaf in Morganton in 1973. Eddie was employed by Escod Industries of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for many years.

He was an avid sports fanatic enjoying college football, NFL and NASCAR. Eddie also enjoyed fishing, reading his bible and devotional. He loved spending time with his granddaughter, Akylah. Eddie was also a cancer survivor.

In addition to his mother, Eddie is survived by his daughter, Ophelia Holden Anderson; granddaughter, Akylah Anderson; special “sister Cindy” Reed, all of Ocean Isle Beach; brothers, Greg Hewett (Joyce) of Mullins, South Carolina, Audie Hewett (Sammie) of Ocean Isle Beach and baby brother, Mark Holden (Lauren) of Ocean Isle Beach; and several nieces and nephews.

A small private service will be held for family members due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A memorial service for the public will be announced at a later date.

The family requests that donations be made in his name to the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center, 955 Mercy Lane, Bolivia, NC 28422.

Due to health concerns, there will be no visitation at this time. However, cards of condolence may be sent to Ophelia Anderson, 6962 Reed Trail NW, Ocean Isle Beach, NC 28469.
