WAKE FOREST — Richard Glenn “Rick” Sachariat Sr., 75, unexpectedly passed away Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020, at his home. Rick was born Jan. 21, 1945, in Holyoke Massachusetts, to Frank and Betty Sachariat.
When Rick was very young, his family moved to the family farm in Apple Creek Ohio, where he graduated from Waynedale High School. Rick then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1965 to 1969, where he served our country in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1967. He served as a staff sergeant, where he worked in field artillery, qualifying as a sharpshooter.
In his earlier years, Rick enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son, Ricky, and ensured his family had a respect for guns and their safety. He was a devoted father and husband who always put his family first.
In March 2000, after 30 years of employment, Rick retired from General Electric in Wilmington, where he worked as an information systems engineer.
Rick is survived by his wife of 33 years, Valerie; daughters, Shelly (Vinnie) and Ashley (Matt); grandsons, Stratton and Reid; brother, Fred; sister, Sue; and many nieces and nephews. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Betty; sisters, Betty and Sharon; and son, Ricky.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 26, at Coble Ward Smith Funeral Home, 1155 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington. Visitation with the family will be held immediately after services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oasis NC/SEA Academy. Oasis NC is a non-profit organization that provides educational and vocational support to children with autism and other learning disabilities.
