HAMPSTEAD — George Washington Peay Jr., 67, passed away Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington.
He was born Feb. 13, 1953, in Wilmington, to the late George and Thelma Melvin Peay.
George loved rigging boats and installing marine electronics. He enjoyed boating, fishing and all things water related. George worked over 30 years at Crocker Marine Company and other marine service companies. He was a member at Riley’s Creek Baptist Church, Rocky Point. George was a bright light to many people and will be missed dearly.
George is survived by his wife of 30 years, Patricia (Coman) Peay; stepdaughters, Sarah Cleary and Rebecca Cleary Berger, and her husband, Brian; brother, James Melvin Peay, and his wife, Darlene; step-grandchildren, Mattie Phillips, Will Berger and Kathleen Berger Hillbourn, and her husband, Garrett; and many other family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
Charitable contributions in George’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
