Joshua Monroe Hammond, 39, appreciated the peace and quiet of the mountains

WILMINGTON — Joshua Monroe Hammond, 39, passed away Saturday, Oct. 10, 2020, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born Sept. 14, 1981, in Wilmington, the son of Jerry Alton Hammond Jr. and Debra Evans Hammond.

Joshua is survived by his grandfather, Jerry Hammond; daughters, Payton Hammond, Josalynn Hammond and Ayria Hammond; son, Cole Wilson; longtime girlfriend, Amy Justice; Louann Wilson; Donald Wilson; nephew, Mason Hammond; and a few cousins. Joshua was preceded in death by Debra Hammond, Ale Hammond, Jason Hammond and Geraldine Hammond.

He worked as a plumber for the past 22 years. Joshua loved camping, fires, fishing, hunting, the outdoors, children, family and friends. He loved a good steak and a cold beer. He loved to laugh and cut up, he had a great sense of humor. He loved animals, especially dogs. He loved the beach, he loved the river and skiing. One of his dreams was to take his family to the mountains to live. He loved the peace and quiet which is why he wanted to move up to the mountains and live in the middle of nowhere. He loved to relax by visiting Greenfield Lake; he found it very peaceful there. Joshua loved baseball, big sandwiches, meats and music. He was an easygoing kind of guy who would make doing anything fun. He enjoyed messing with people and having a good laugh with those close to him. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 4 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel. A service to celebrate Joshua’s life will follow at 5 p.m. with the Rev. Tim Russell officiating.
