William A. Evans, 94, Army veteran who served during World War II

WILMINGTON — William A. Evans, 94, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2020, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice.

He was born July 25, 1925, in Smithfield to the late William Arthur Evans and Geneva Wilkins Evans.

William worked as a floor mechanic and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Woodard Evans; daughter, Patsy Osborne; two grandchildren; and three sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Powell (Charlie) of Wilmington and Dorothy Zettelmaier (Larry) of Raleigh; son, Billy Evans (Kim) of Wilmington; and nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Andrews Market Street Chapel, with Judy Powell officiating. The family will receive visitors from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to services. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
