Grady Adrian Hobbs, 68, remembered for his wild sense of humor and quick wit

WILMINGTON — Grady Adrian Hobbs, 68, husband, father, brother and friend, passed away following a stroke Tuesday, July 9, 2019.

Grady had retired after working 20-plus years with the New Hanover County Inspections Department serving as the chief building inspector.

Grady was born March 28, 1951, to William Gibbs and Esther Hobbs on March 28, 1951 in Charlotte and raised in Raleigh. While attending East Carolina University, Grady spent his summers surveying and exploring coastal North Carolina. After meeting and marrying the love of his life, Kathy, he decided to plant permanent roots in the Porters Neck area of Wilmington, where he lived for almost 40 years. During that time, he raised two children, Ava and Joe. He will be remembered for his love of sports, wild sense of humor, infectious laugh and quick wit.

Grady was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, William Gibbs Hobbs Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine Dunn Hobbs; brother, Brian Nall Hobbs; daughter, Ava Lynn Hobbs Kastner, and son-in-law, Benjamin; son, Joseph Franklin Hobbs, and daughter-in-law, Mallory; as well as three grandchildren, Henry Kastner, Neko Hobbs and Grady Kastner.

A visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 12, at Andrews Mortuary, 1617 Market St., Wilmington. A graveside service will be held for friends and family at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, July 13, at Oakdale Cemetery.
