SHALLOTTE — Lennie Irene Russ Grainger, 97, passed away Thursday, Jan. 10 2019, at Autumn Care of Shallotte.
She was born Jan. 29, 1921, in Brunswick County, the daughter of the late Dennis Snow Russ and Rose Eatta Ganus Russ and stepmother Alpha Tyree Russ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ulysses H. Grainger, Sr. also preceded in death by two daughters, Wanda Faye Grainger, Tripp and Mary Etta Grainger Williams; a son, Ulysses H. Grainger, Jr; three brothers, Ottis Clyde Russ, Dorsey Everette Russ and Clem Russ.
Surviving are her loving children, William Dennis Granger, and his wife, Elisabeth, of Supply, Lennie Jane Grainger Causey, and her husband, Pastor Bobby Causey, of Shallotte and John Matthew Grainger, and his wife, Lisa, of Supply; brother, David Lee Tyree of Ash; daughter-in-law, Betty Grainger, of Ash; sister-in-law, Ruby Russ of Fayetteville; four sisters, Betty Grainger of Ash, Rosa Jane Russ Nofsinger of New Bern, Gloria Dean Russ Hughes of Ash and Nelda Evonne Russ Thorsen of Shallotte; 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 14, at East Side Fellowship Church with Pastor Bobby Causey officiating. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
