Kenneth Adair Piner, 74, affectionately known to friends and family as “Scratch,” died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018.

He was a giving and patient man and was greatly loved by many.

He was born Jan. 1, 1944, the son of the late Marion Amos and Mary Louise Piner.

Scratch served in the U.S. Army and was formerly a 32nd Degree Mason. He retired from Occidental Chemical Company after 33 years of service.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Susan Piner, who cherished each day they were together. He is also survived by three brothers, Marion Wesley Piner, and his wife, LaDee, William Ronald Piner and Charles Stuart Piner, and his wife, Pauline; and four children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 18, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Road, Wilmington. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 19, at Oakdale Cemetery, 520 N. 15th St., Wilmington.
