
WILMINGTON — John J. Evanko, 76, beloved husband of Anna May Evanko, passed away Monday, Aug. 20, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born Dec. 16, 1941, in Rochester, New York, he was a son of the late John and Helen Hocenick Evanko and a Wilmington resident for several years.
He worked as a material handler until his retirement and was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church.
In addition to his wife, Anna May, he is survived by his children, John Evanko of Wilmington, Jean Marie (Evanko) Phillips, and her husband, David, and son, Tobias, of Gastonia, Grace Pauline (Evanko) Sullivan, and her husband, Kenyata, and their son, Bremen, and daughter, Anne Elizabeth, of Wilmington. He also is survived by three sisters and a brother in Rochester, New York; as well as several nieces and nephews in Rochester, New York, Wilmington, Raleigh, New York and Cleveland, Ohio.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 24, at Saint Stanislaus Church, 4849 Castle Hayne Road, Wilmington, with interment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Wilmington.
