CASTLE HAYNE — Anne Kathleen Warnock Koenig, 77, peacefully left us Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018. She was born Dec. 12, 1940, in County Donegal, Ireland, to Richard Warnock and Alice Jones Warnock.
She was one of 13 children. At the age of 16, she left her family and came to America to start her new life. This scrapper of a woman lived in New York City for several years before meeting her husband. She became the wife of Eugene W. Koenig Sr. and devoted her life to their family. For the next 60 years, she shared the love that can only come from an Irish mother — stubborn, strong-handed, yet full of wit, laughter, love and endless patience for her family.
She lived most of her adult life in Wilmington with her family. In loving remembrance, she will be known for being “My little Irish Woman,” “Greatest Teacher,” “Hero,” “Angel on Earth,” “Strongest Woman with Biggest Heart,” “The Wind Beneath Her Family’s Wings,” and “The Light in a Dim World.” She loved us unconditionally, she worked hard, was always someone you could lean on. She always smiled and resonated positivity towards others.
She arose early before the chickens and spent her mornings drinking Folgers and reading the Wilmington Star-News. God forbid the paper did not show up on time and God have mercy on the carrier when she saw him. She enjoyed having milk and cookies before bed and chocolate milk at 2 a.m. Her way of dealing with conflict with a loved one was, “Give me a hug!” Even when you didn’t feel like it. But, her persistence made you glad you did. Her support, her warmth and arms open wide will never be forgotten and are reminders to live by.
Her beautiful laugh and swift wit will always be significant in our hearts and greatly missed.
She is survived by her son, Eugene W. Koenig Jr.; daughter, Mary Alice Koenig; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, Shelley Hyatt, Tiffani Hawkins, Alexandria Parker, Travis Koenig, Matthew Springer, Mackenzie Koenig and Gabrielle Savage, Sheriek Scott, Treyvon Robinson, Hayvn Parker, Aliviyah Hyatt, Kamiyah Edwards, Rylan Parker and Izaiah Edwards.
We love you, Nana.
