
WILMINGTON — Marie Jannie Fowler, 91, departed her earthly home Monday, July 30, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 28, 1927, daughter of Cora Fipps in Tabor City.
Marie worked at Spofford Mills for many years and then went to Textilease where she retired after 20 years.
Marie was a loving wife and a wonderful Christian mother. She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking for her family on the holidays and going to Pizza Hut with her grandchildren. Marie also loved going to the mountains with her husband. She enjoyed working in the yard and tending her flowers. She regularly went to visit and sing at nursing homes, bringing joy to the residents. She loved others, and they loved her as well. She was a former member of the Gibson Avenue Baptist Church and a faithful member at Castle Hayne Baptist Church, where her son pastored for 33 years.
In addition to her mother, Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Fowler; brother, Oscar Fipps; sister, Leila Bell Benton (Carvie); and grandson, Mitchell Fowler.
She leaves behind wonderful memories to her children, Cliff Fowler (Linda), Billy Fowler (Linda), Denise Garner (William) and Renee Kinney (Mike); grandchildren, Ryan Rivenbark, Drenda Newton (Gregg), Sonya Fowler and Genia Ottoway (Jamie); and nine great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at noon, Friday, Aug. 3, at Quinn McGowen Funeral Chapel, Wilmington, with Revs. Gregg Newton, Bobby Mowrey and Wayne Holley officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
