CURRIE — Joseph Glenn “Joey” Sandy, 50, passed from his earthly life Thursday, July 26, 2018, at his home.
He was born Oct. 12, 1967, in Wilmington, the son of the late Joseph Sandy and Mavis Lewis Gore. Also remembered is his brother, Jeff Lewis, who preceded Joey in death.
Joey is survived by his sons, Brian Sandy (Kelsey Hosford), Tristen Sandy (Rachel Apple) and Tyler Sandy; daughter, Sara Sandy; grandchildren, Lindsay Lee, Jace Sandy and Elijah Sandy; brother, Tony Fontana (Cindy); sister, Melissa Woodcock (Steve); sister-in-law, Sherry Lewis; Nicole Sandy, mother of Brian, Tristen and Tyler; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Joey, who loved his family dearly, possessed a radiant smile, great personality and caring manner. He was an intelligent, self-educated man who constantly read books and encyclopedias to increase his knowledge. He loved to discuss, debate and share his views on most any topic.
In his younger years and prior to his illness, Joey enjoyed fishing and hunting in God’s beautiful world of nature. He also inherited from his mother a love of cooking and was an excellent cook. Joey was especially close to his mother and now he has spread his wings and joined his mother along with other family in paradise.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 5, at Currie Community Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Worley conducting the service.
