WILMINGTON — Janet Wilson Mitchell, 79, passed in peace Friday, June 22, 2018.

Janet was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Robert Mitchell.

She is survived by her sons, Glen Robert (Joan) and Todd Sheldon (Nancy). She was a proud grandmother to Robert, Lauren, Cassidy, Jack, Luke, Sam, Abby and Titus. She is further survived by her sister, Joanne (Lee) Howard. Janet will be remembered as a fun-loving friend who enjoyed life.

Janet was born June 18, 1939, the middle daughter to Ira and Leona Wilson in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She moved to Washington, D.C., to pursue work after graduating Rising Sun, Class of 1957. She met John and they were married May 7, 1960. They lived for many years in District Heights, Maryland. She worked from home as a stenographer while raising her boys. Janet later joined the work force with EG&G at Andrews Air Force Base.

John and Janet retired and moved to Calvert County, where they were active church and community members. After John’s death in 2007 Janet relocated to Wilmington. Janet loved her Red Hat Society; Bible studies; and bingo, card and board games. We know she is dancing in heaven with her Savior and loved ones who have gone home before her.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 28, at Andrews Mortuary Valley chapel.
