Royce E. Ivey, 81, of Wilmington

Royce E. Ivey, 81, of Wilmington, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2018 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Wilmington.  He was the beloved husband for 59 years of Jeannette Claudia Prevatte Ivey.

Royce was born on November 16, 1936 in Fairmont to the late James Edward Ivey and Lillie Hill Ivey.  He graduated from Fairmont High School.  He was retired from Overnite Transportation where he was a truck driver for 45 years and was known to other drivers as “Poison Ivy”.  He served in the Army National Guard for 7 years.  He performed community volunteer work with the Salvation Army and the Baptist Men’s Association. 

Royce was a member of Silver Lake Baptist Church where he served on Building and Grounds and as a Deacon.  He enjoyed woodworking and carpentry.  Every November for 30 plus years, he spent a week fishing with a large group of friends in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  In his spare time, you would find him working in the yard and keeping up his garden.

Besides his wife, Jeannette, he is survived by his three children, Tony Ivey and his wife Toni of Wilmington, Teresa Ivey Barnes of Fort Worth TX and Christy Ivey of Rockwall. TX; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Tyler, James Ivey, David and Jonathan Barnes, Layla, Jackson and Harrison Segelhorst; three great grandchildren, Kyle, Klay and Keri Houck; two sisters, Myrna Ivey of Fairmont and Brenda Lupo of Lumberton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Phyllis Hardin and his brother Wayland Ivey.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Silver Lake Baptist Church, officiated by Dr. Michael Moore, Rev. Lenier Furr and Rev. Steve Gasque, with visitation starting at 11 a.m. until the start of the service hour.  A reception will follow the service with burial at Oleander Memorial Gardens at 3:30 p.m.
