WILMINGTON — Walter Raleigh Harris, 67, died unexpectedly Thursday, April 19, 2018.

Walter served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and retired from G.E. in 2010 after 38 years of employment.

Walter was a man of joy and happiness — he lit up a room when he entered. He loved fishing, serving others, but most of all, he loved his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanette R. Harris; father, Raleigh Harris; sisters, Betty Schupp and Mary Alice Blake; and his brother-in-law, Richard Blake.

He is survived by his wife, Karen A. Harris; daughter, Anita H. Klutz; stepson, Andy Pettigrew (Darcie); four grandchildren, Jacob Klutz, Lillian Pettigrew, Kaylee Pettigrew and Andy Pettigrew III; aunt, Aslee McClellan; cousins, who were more like his siblings; best friend, Billy Holton; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Walter always said, “Don’t mourn my death, but celebrate my life.”

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 24, at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Road, with Rob Strickland and Shane Becton officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. and will continue until the service hour.

In celebration of his life, the family requests that all those attending wear bright clothing in honor of his love for bright, cheerful colors.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Walter’s name may be made to the North Brunswick High School Athletic Baseball Program.
