HAMPSTEAD — William ‘Bill’ Hosie, 84, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, at Stonebridge Assisted Living.
He was born Oct. 4, 1932, in Elizabeth, N.J., the son of the late William Hosie and Catherine Hosie. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Katherine Hosie; and one sister, Betty Hosie.
Surviving are his three daughters, Cathie Stong, and her husband, Daniel, of Port Royal, Pa., Linda Padezanin, and her husband, Bryan, of Wilmington, N.C., and Kimberly Heller, and her husband, Juergen, of Spardorf, Germany; one son, Douglas Hosie of Port Royal, Pa.; six grandchildren, Christina Wade, Scott Wade, and his wife, Krystyna, and daughter, Sophia, Erika Padezanin, Nick Padezanin, Ian Heller and Jenny Lynn Hosie; and two great-grandchildren, Aubrey Broker and Dominic Lorenz.
Bill joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and was stationed in Wichita, Kansas, where he met the love of his life, our mother, Ellen Hosie. Bill and Ellen married in 1952 and were married for 55 years when his love passed away in 2008.
After leaving the U.S. Air Force in 1955, Bill became a computer repair technician and started his career with Burroughs and held positions as a sales representative, branch manager, district sales manager and district manager of the New York Financial District until his retirement in 1991. Dad’s career resulted in many moves over the years from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York and Massachusetts.
After his retirement in 1991, he and our mother moved to North Carolina to spend their retirement years traveling throughout the United States, Puerto Vallarta, Scotland, Orkney Islands, Ireland and England.
Dad had a love for the water and owned three sailboats during the course of his lifetime. He and mom sailed all around the Chesapeake Bay, Raritan Bay and Martha’s Vineyard and the Virgin Islands.
The family wishes to extend special thanks and appreciation to Denise Matthews a friend of the family and Steven Pattee from Home Instead who so lovingly cared for our father during his illness. The staff at Stonebridge as well as Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
Dad was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be sadly missed by all.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 16, at Andrews Mortuary Hampstead Chapel with Parthena Skipper officiating services. Interment will immediately follow services in Sea Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
