WINNABOW — Virginia Elizabeth Carter Thigpen, 94, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, at Brunswick Cove Living Center.
She was born Dec. 2, 1922, in Wilmington, N.C., to the late Oliver and Maebelle Davis Carter. Virginia was a charter member of Ogden Baptist Church. She loved her church, daily Bible studies and prayer group.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John George Thigpen; daughter, Barbara Joan Thigpen; and half-brothers, Wallace and Houston Carter.
Survivors include her daughter, Jeanette Thigpen Foster, and her husband, Dwight, of Leland, N.C.; grandchildren, John Copeman, and his wife, Diane, Stephanie Copeman Gilbert, and her husband, Corky, and Tacey Foster Borneman, and her husband, Michael; great-grandchildren, John Howard Gilbert, Shannon Gilbert, Sophia Copeman, Bianca Copeman and Mikey and Chris Borneman; great-great-grandchildren, Mason and Madelyn Gilbert; and sister, Phyllis J. Carter of Richlands, N.C.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 7, at Andrews Market Street Chapel with the Rev. Danny Justice officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will follow services in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
