LELAND — John Irvin “Tep” Tressler III, 75, passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice following a courageous battle against cancer. Born Dec. 14, 1941, in Meyersdale, Pa., he was preceded in death by his parents, John I. Tressler Jr. and Ruth Weaver Tressler.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria, of Leland, N.C.; children, Mark Tressler, and his wife, Donna, and Laurie Walstead, and her husband, Mark; grandchildren, Andrew, and his wife, Lauren, Mark Jr., and his wife, Nicole, Marissa, Isaac and Ryan; special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Connie and Greg Stiger; nephew, Chris Williams, and his wife, Shannon; special cousins, Almeda Miller, and her husband, Ron, and Joanne “Tootie” Hill; special friend, Roger Sarver, and his wife, Deb; and many, many friends and relatives.
After graduating from Meyersdale Area High School, John was employed at Cultured Marble Inc. in Beltsville, Md., as a master craftsman-fabricator for over 30 years. He was a member of Pine Valley United Methodist Church and served as a cook in the church kitchen. Mr. Tressler was also known as the “Candy Man.” He made hand-dipped chocolates and specialty candies to raise funds for benefit of the hospice community.
Friends and family will be received from 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 6, at M. Ray Leckemby Funeral Home, 203 North St. Meyersdale, Pa. Services will be conducted at the Amity United Church of Christ at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 7, with Pastor Connie Garlic officiating. Interment will be held in the Meyersdale Union Cemetery. A special celebration of life service will be held at Pine Valley United Methodist Church in Wilmington at a later date.
