WILMINGTON — Melissa Carol Wooten, 49, loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, July 13, 2017, at home.

Carol was born May 4, 1968, in Greensboro, N.C., to Jimmy Carroll and Sue Carol Wooten. Carol graduated from Hoggard High School and Appalachian State University. She taught adaptive physical education in Guilford County before her early retirement due to the complications of M.S.

Her positive outlook and grace in the most difficult times were an inspiration to all. She would want to be remembered as a faithful Christian and loyal patriot; red, white and blue were her favorite colors.

Carol is survived by her parents; sister, Allison Wooten Austin (James); two nephews, Fletcher and Jacob Austin; boyfriend, Ross Cook; and aunts and many cousins. She leaves behind her best friend, Charlie, the Dachshund.

A visitation will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m., Tuesday, July 18, at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Carolina Beach, with a memorial service to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hanover Humane SocietyWarrior Family Ministries, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, or the charity of your choice.
